Step‑by‑Step Instructions for Sausage and Polenta Bake
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a medium saucepan, combine 4 cups of water and 1 cup of milk. Heat over medium heat until gentle bubbles form. Gradually whisk in 1 cup of polenta, stirring continuously for 5-7 minutes until thickened and creamy.
- Remove from heat and stir in 2 tablespoons of butter and half of the grated cheese (about 1 cup), seasoning with salt and pepper to taste.
- In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add a diced onion, 2 cloves of minced garlic, and 1 diced bell pepper. Sauté for about 5 minutes.
- Slice your choice of sausages and add them to the skillet. Cook for 8-10 minutes until browned and cooked through.
- In a greased baking dish, spread half of the polenta mixture on the bottom. Layer the sautéed sausage and vegetables over the polenta, then top with the remaining polenta and the remaining grated cheese.
