Basic Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Gather all your ingredients and equipment.
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until halfway cooked. Add onion and garlic, seasoning with salt, pepper, paprika, onion powder, and garlic powder. Cook until beef is no longer pink.
- Peel and slice russet potatoes into ¼-inch rounds. Soak in cold water for 10 minutes, then pat dry.
- Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter. Layer half of the potato slices, season with salt and pepper.
- Spread the cooked beef mixture over the potatoes, then layer the remaining potato slices on top.
- Dot with butter and pour beef broth or water around the edges.
- Cover with foil and bake for 60 minutes.
- Uncover, sprinkle cheese over the top, and bake for an additional 15 minutes until cheese is golden.
- Let rest for 10-15 minutes before serving.
