For the Flavor

  • ¼ cup honey You can use maple syrup for a unique twist.
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce Replace with tamari for gluten-free.
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar Apple cider is recommended for tanginess.
For the Vegetables
  • 1 cup mixed vegetables Bell peppers, spinach, or zucchini can be used.
For Creaminess (Optional)
  • ½ cup cream Heavy cream or Parmesan cheese can be added.
For a Kick
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes Adjust according to your family's spice preferences.

Equipment

  • skillet
  • Medium saucepan
  • colander

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Begin by slicing the Italian sausage into ½-inch pieces and finely mincing the garlic cloves. In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, and vinegar until well combined.
  2. In a medium saucepan, bring salted water to a rolling boil and add the short pasta of your choice. Cook until al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Once done, drain the pasta in a colander.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the sliced sausage. Cook for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  4. Reduce the skillet heat to medium-low and stir in the minced garlic. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Pour the honey garlic sauce into the skillet with the sausage and garlic. Stir well and let it simmer for about 3-5 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  6. Add the drained pasta into the skillet with sausage and sauce. Toss everything together for 1-2 minutes.
  7. Remove the skillet from the stovetop and transfer the dish to serving plates, garishing with fresh herbs if desired.
